Biography
I am a Professor of Mathematics and serve as the Department Chair. I am a faculty affiliate of the Computational Science and Engineering program. Also I am a program faculty member of the Graduate Program of Mathematics for Innovation at Kyushu University in Japan.
Research Interests
Applied Mathematics Differential Equations Fluid Dynamics Physical Oceanography Climate Science
Research Description
My research draws from rigorous analysis, numerical computation, and modeling, to deepen our understanding of the mathematics of surface water waves and other related problems. They include physical oceanography and geophysical fluid dynamics. My projects emphasize large scale dynamics and genuinely nonlinear behaviors, such as breaking and peaking.
I co-organized LMS-Bath Symposium New Directions in Water Waves, Summer School and Workshop.
Recently, I have interests in machine learning applications to climate change and other disciplines.
I co-organized IMSI Long Program Confronting Global Climate Change.
